Intituto de Desenvolvimento Humano Sustentável
The Institute for Sustainable Human Development (IDHS) is a partnership between the Catholic University of Minas Gerais and UNDP - Brazil .
It is located in Belo Horizonte , the third largest metropolitan area in Brazil , and has as its main objective the dissemination of information, knowledge, projects and actions related to the issue of Human Development (HD).
In order to accomplish this objective, IDHS implements the following activities:
- organization of presencial and long distance courses of variable length (from 8 to 360 hour courses) about the main themes of the Human Development literature.
- production of teaching material related to HD.
- promotion of publications and events with national and international experts in the area.
- diffusion of the literature on HD in academic programs and institutions, with a view to motivate for its study professors and students, in the undergraduate, graduate and continuing education levels.
- research at the national, regional and local levels, in the area of public policies oriented to the promotion of human development, the struggle against poverty and the reduction of income inequalities.
In the long run, IDHS seeks to become one of the main depositaries in Brazil of the capacity to teach and do research on Human Development.
